Earlier this month we converted a luxury wheelchair accessible minibus for a retirement group. The group has 5 retirement homes all situated in beautiful period properties in the South of England. One of the group’s homes in Brighton contacted our corporate sales manager, Paul Dedman, with a requirement for a high-end vehicle that would complement their building.

The Base Vehicle

The L2H2 335 Peugeot Boxer Professional features a 6-speed manual gearbox, a rear reversing camera and sensors, a single cab passenger seat, in-dash air conditioning and is finished in a graphite grey metallic paint. Exterior signwriting that was chosen by the retirement group has also been added to the exterior. The signwriting has been personalised with the individual home’s name and logo.

The Stanford Coachworks Conversion

In total, the accessible minibus can carry up to 7 passengers or 3 wheelchairs with seats in the rear saloon removed. To make the layout of the vehicle easy to configure, each of the 6 rear saloon seats include NMI removable seat fixings. These seat fixings make it incredibly easy to fit each seat into the tracked floor. To give the vehicle that executive feel we have overlaid the tracked floor in an ebony wood effect non-slip lino.

It wouldn’t be a luxury Stanford’s conversion without our iconic diamond stitching. We have upholstered all seats, including both driver and front cab passenger, in a wipe clean grey material with royal blue diamond stitch pattern and piping. To match this, we have also added Royal blue accents throughout the vehicle. This includes the seatbelts, rear door panels, clamp box cover and cant rail tracking covers.

Passengers can access the rear saloon via the SCW low entry fold-out step. For those passengers using wheelchairs, we have installed a Ricon split platform internal tail lift in the rear saloon.

Making Passengers Comfortable

Passenger comfort is key; therefore we have added a number of various features to ensure that all of the care home’s clients can enjoy their journeys on the minibus.

  • 3x centre roof lights with comfort blue or bright white facility
  • Low level LED blue night lighting
  • Eberspacher rear saloon heating
  • Soft feel carpet interior trim

Customer Safety

At Stanford Coachworks we pride ourselves on the safety of our vehicles. We ensure that our conversions are as safe for everyone as possible. Every vehicle that we convert undergoes either an IVA test or our converters will build it to the highest NSSTA standards. The retirement group’s Peugeot Boxer underwent an IVA test and from this we supply the vehicle with an IVA certificate to prove that it meets all safety standards.

We also added some extra features into our conversion to heighten the level of safety even further, this includes:

  • White noise reversing alarm
  • Rear door and side door open warning buzzer
  • Automatic front and side load door step lights
  • High intensity LED load light to illuminate the rear outdoor tail lift space

Paul Dedman will be carrying out a COVID-secure official handover with the retirement home next week to demonstrate to them the features of their minibus. We really hope that the residents of the retirement home enjoy using their new vehicle.
