Stanfords at the 2022 Commercial Vehicle Show!

Last week our team had a fantastic time showcasing our brand-new Ford Transit 4x4 at the Commercial Vehicle Show.

The show kicked off on Tuesday 24th May and we had a brilliant spot centered on the Webasto stand. Mike, Paul and Nigel of the Stanfords sales team joined company directors Jess and Lee to exhibit and celebrate our 12,000th minibus conversion. The eye-catching Transit is a L3H3 AWD model which has been specially converted for one of our long-term clients Treloar School and College. Inside, the vehicle features a premium diamond-stitch interior with five passenger seats and space for up to three wheelchairs. Find out more about Treloar’s new vehicle by reading below!

During our time at the show we had the chance to catch up with a number of clients and suppliers, plus we got the chance to take a look around at some of the new innovative ideas that everyone had to offer.

Our 12,000th vehicle: Honoured to work with Treloar’s for almost a decade

At this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show we celebrated converting our 12,000th minibus and we couldn’t be prouder to have been given the opportunity to design it for our long-term client Treloar School and College.

Who are Treloar’s?

Treloar’s is a specialist school and college founded in 1907 by the Lord Mayor of London. They provide a number of services including education, care, therapy, medical support and independence training to young people with physical disabilities from all over the UK and overseas. Treloar’s offer both residential and day services to help prepare young people for adult life, giving them the confidence and skills to achieve to their full potential.

Stanford Coachworks and Treloar’s

For almost a decade Mike Gasper, who is a valued member of the SCW team, has built a fantastic relationship with Treloar’s. Mike has been part of our team for 14 years and has worked on a variety of different projects however, Treloar’s vehicles have really stood out for him.

Introductions initially took place at the Commercial Vehicle Show, but Mike and Treloar’s relationship blossomed almost a decade ago when we converted their first wheelchair accessible minibus. Over the years, Mike has established a close friendship with Treloar’s transport manager Mark Copping and together they have perfected a high-standard specification for four of their minibuses. Mark is incredibly passionate about his clients and the service that Treloar’s offers, he recalls one of his favorite memories, ‘Mike arranged for a group of students to be driven around the race circuit at Brands Hatch in a Mercedes minibus by a professional driver dressed as the stig! An incredible experience for our students.’

With Mike’s help, the pair ensures that each minibus is enjoyable to travel on and most importantly, does not magnify the fact that it is wheelchair accessible. ‘We work closely with Mark to achieve a vehicle more akin to a mini coach rather than an accessible minibus.’ says Mike, ‘I really enjoy working with Mark, Treloar’s vehicles are always a pleasure to spec and build.’

4x4’s for Treloar’s

Our 12,000th minibus is based on a Ford Transit L3H3 AWD and will join Treloar’s previous Stanfords Sprinter 4x4 on their growing fleet. After struggling to transport students to the college during a harsh winter, Treloar decided to order their first 4x4 minibus enabling access to the site all year round.

Treloar’s latest vehicle is based on the new Ford Transit AWD L3H3 model and was the star of the show at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show. Mike Gasper and Mark Copping worked closely on the project to ensure that the vehicle is perfect. Treloar’s is instantly recognisable by their striking green logo, so inside of the vehicle we have installed five diamond-stitch luxury passenger seats, finished in green with embroidered head rests.

Many of Treloar’s students use wheelchairs, so each seat has been made easily removable to make space for up to three specialist wheelchairs. We have also included a tracked floor, overlaid with a premium wood effect lino, upper and side wall cant rail tracking to help secure each wheelchair safely. For wheelchair access, the rear of the vehicle features a BraunAbility internal tail lift.

Mark like to ensure that his students travel in the most comfortable, stress-free way as possible, so we have used aspects of our luxury mini coach conversions to make the vehicle feel and look less of a standard wheelchair accessible minibus. To achieve this effect we have included our Monaco LED ambient colour-changing roof lighting, diamond-stitch roof panels, USB / USB-c charging points and an electric side step.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Treloar School and College for their returning custom and for letting us showcase their new minibus at the 2022 Commercial Vehicle Show. We hope to continue our wonderful relationship with Treloar’s for many more years to come as we really enjoy working with them and converting their bespoke vehicles.

Premium wheelchair accessible conversions by Stanford Coachworks

At Stanford Coachworks we don’t design ordinary minibuses. Each of our conversions are entirely bespoke and are made to each individual customer’s requirements. Our latest client, based in Sussex, wanted something premium to add to their fleet so we went all out on their L2H2 Peugeot Boxer.

Our client is an accessible transport organisation which specialises in wheelchair accessible travel and their new Stanfords minibus will be used for an array of different services including hospital / doctors’ appointment transport, shopping trips or just general family visits.

Stanford’s premium conversions

So, what makes our conversions so different? At Stanford Coachworks we have an excellent team of highly-skilled coachbuiders, seating upholsterers and pre-delivery inspectors - many of which have been with us since we opened our doors 27 years ago! Most coachbuilding teams are made up of two or three individuals who undertake the entire conversion from start to finish. This unique approach gives our clients the opportunity to meet with their specialist team and discuss a variety of ideas together.

When it comes to our conversions, we only ever use the best components which are tried and tested by the experienced team. Safety is our number one priority so every vehicle that we convert is either built to strict NSSTA standards or undergoes a full IVA test.

Our latest premium conversion

The L2H2 Peugeot Boxer is finished in a metallic grey paint which is complimented by its bright blue and grey interior. Inside, we have installed seven luxury passenger seats upholstered in a grey wipe clean fabric with blue diamond-stitching, piping and seatbelts. Each seat is easily removable to allow space for up to three wheelchairs.

The minibus features a few of our popular premium options including ambient colour-changing LED roof lighting, a contrasting dark suede roof, diamond-stitch roof panels, privacy tinted rear windows and our custom ‘S’ modesty screen. Take a look at more of the features below.
